Labrador Battery was one of the major seaward defences built by the British in 1843. Together with Fort Siloso on the opposite Sentosa Island, it guarded the entrance to the harbours in Keppel Bay from the southern sea.
Unfortunately, neither of the forts actually functioned as designed during WWII, since the Japanese invaders actually attacked Singapore from the north, by land.

Labrador Battery was built facing the sea and backed by a small hill covered with secondary forest. The passage from the Singapore main island was so difficult that no easy transportation was available. Therefore, Labrador Pier became the only access to the battery during WWII.
Landing filling on the southern coastline of Singapore has created an alternative access to Labrador by land. The pier is now crowded with relaxed citizens trying fishing.
